Productivity is something everyone is looking for, but continuously lacks for some reason. This is especially true for work productivity. There are many factors that influence whether a person can be productive at the office or not. For example, work conditions, work environment, company culture and so on. While some people seem to be productive by nature, there are others who push themselves beyond any reasonable threshold in order to complete the work set before them.

However, pushing oneself for prolonged periods of time leads to extreme fatigue and burnout, which makes you anything but productive. Contrary to popular belief, productivity at work isn't that hard to come by. Even though there's no secret recipe that will make you instantly productive, there are ways you can motivate yourself to become more productive. It just takes a bit of dedication, effort and organization. Here are a few things you can do to increase your productivity at work.

More sleep - more productivity

When people are faced with a lot of work, the first thing they sacrifice is sleep. It's true that you'll have more time to get things done, especially during the night when everything quiets down. However, sleep deprivation will not only be counterproductive, but it can also have negative effects on your health. You might accomplish more for a couple of days, but once the fatigue kicks in, you'll start to fall behind even on the most basic work-related tasks.

Lack of sleep will increase your stress levels and will also ruin your motivation, creativity and productivity. Getting enough sleep is essential for your body and mind to work properly. Studies have shown that enough sleep helps improve both long and short-term memory while repairing your neural pathways and helping you learn new things. Therefore, next time you think skipping sleep is a good idea, try getting a good night's rest instead and see the results for yourself.

Avoid multitasking

Many people believe that they're quite capable of handling more things at once and that it makes them more productive at work. However, what they believe and what's actually happening are two different things. Multitasking is actually making you less productive than it initially seems and it's also hurting your brain in more ways than one.

It may look or feel as if you were accomplishing more with multitasking, but in reality, your brain is struggling to maintain your cognitive ability when handling more tasks at once, especially if you're engaged in multiple complex tasks. Simply put, our brains aren't wired to effectively handle multiple tasks at once. Multitasking leads to mental overload and it may cause burnout and fatigue, which will negatively impact your productivity and motivation.

Redesign your office

If you happen to be working from home, you're already on a good path to become more productive. Working from home gives people more flexibility, which makes them more relaxed while greatly reducing their stress levels. However, working from home can also make you more distracted. If you have a spare room you can use as an office, it's important to design it properly so that it becomes a work space you can enjoy.

That way, you can keep yourself away from all the distractions in your home and focus on work. Not only will you become more productive, but you'll also be more organized and well-prepared. Procrastinate some more

In fact, procrastination can greatly help in improving your work productivity. The main reason is that by procrastinating, you can completely disengage from work for a short time period.

That will help you reduce stress levels and regain your focus and composure. Simply put, you're taking a break to pull yourself together. The work environment can become highly stressful at one point or another. If there are too many distractions and noises that make you stressed out, forcing yourself to continue working will only make you even less productive and prone to making mistakes.

Finding the right means to become more productive is oftentimes difficult. However, it all comes down to the individual. There are many things you can do to boost your productivity. The key is determining what works best for you.
